It doesn’t matter what your poker hand is, the key is to extract as much value as you can from that. There are many factors that go into determining from the maximum value is. Often you won’t know the answer to this until after the fact so given this you have to do your best to try and work it out as you are playing. For example, if they have a premium hand such as a high pocket pair they are going to try and blast you out of the hand. An other textbook example is when your opponent is drawing dead but actually hits the card they are looking for. This type of scenarios occurs when they hit the straight but you have the flush. Because they are so confident in the strength of their hand they aren’t going to back down – the opposite they are going to bet as much as they can.

The thing about poker which makes it so tricky is that you never know what is happening until following the flop. A player can be ahead following the flop, behind after the turn and then up again at the river.
